Chris Lydon had his upbringing in a small village near Derby, and began
playing the cornet at a relatively early age, moving relatively swiftly to
tuba during his last year of primary school. He has played in various
ensembles over the years, including the Derbyshire County Youth Wind Band and
Youth Orchestra, and touring Japan, Germany, Holland and Gozo, an island near
Malta. Chris also has a keen interest in arranging and composition.
Whilst undertaking his Bachelor of Music degree at The University of
Manchester, he studied with Ewan Easton, principal tuba with the Hallé
Orchestra. During his time at the music department, Chris played with
numerous ensembles, such as the Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta (chamber
orchestra), New Music Ensemble and Brass Ensemble. He also conducted
the Brass Ensemble in his final year and was the manager of the chamber orchestra for two years.
Chris is currently taking a 'year out' (but from what, he's not quite sure) having graduated
in July 2005 with a first class honours degree. Chris plans to continue his composition
and arranging, whilst pursuing other musical activities.
